These terms and who sells

These terms are between you and the seller of Old Habits:

By buying or using Old Habits you accept these terms. They take away none of the rights consumer law in your country gives you.

The license

• Old Habits is licensed, not sold. The one-time purchase gives you a personal, non-exclusive, perpetual license to use the app.
• As planned, the license is unlocked by a code sent to the email used for the purchase, which must be used within 30 days of purchase. The app then activates the license on the Mac, over the internet, through a device identifier that cannot be reversed to the original data. A purchase code is accepted even without the internet: activation happens on its own when there is a connection, and you have 7 days to complete it. Once activated, the license has no expiry and the app works without the internet.
• There are two products, for the buyer’s own use on the buyer’s own Macs: Individual, for 1 Mac, and Multi, for up to 3 Macs at the same time. Each is a purchase of its own.
• To move to another Mac, release the old Mac’s slot: with Deactivate this Mac, in the app itself, or on the Manage license page planned for this website — you enter the purchase email, get an access link with no password, see your activated Macs by model and date and use Release. There are up to 3 releases per year per license; beyond that, or if you lost access to your email, write to support.
• You may not resell, rent, share or redistribute the app, the license or the code, or bypass the trial period or the license check. None of this restricts what the law expressly allows.

One-time purchase

• Old Habits is sold directly, on this website, and sales are not open yet. It is a one-time purchase: not a subscription, no recurring charge.
• The trial is 14 days, free. As planned: on first use, the app asks for the email and the code you received by email; the trial code is requested with your email on this website, and the purchase code arrives by email after payment, at the address used for the purchase. The email has a button that opens the app already filled in.
• Payment will be processed by a payment provider named at checkout. Price and applicable taxes are shown at checkout, before you pay.

Updates

Fixes and new versions arrive through the app itself, via Sparkle, signed and verified before they install. In the Updates tab of the preferences you choose whether they install automatically. An update may add, change or fix features and may require a newer version of macOS. What the purchase includes in updates will be shown at checkout, before you pay.

Warranty and liability

• You keep all the guarantees and rights that Brazil’s Consumer Protection Code (Law 8,078/1990) and other Brazilian law provide. If you are a consumer in Australia, the European Union, the United Kingdom or any other country with consumer rights that cannot be excluded, those rights also continue to apply. To exercise any of them, write to suporte@oldhabits.app.
• Beyond the statutory guarantees, we offer no additional contractual warranty.
• Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that the applicable law does not allow to be excluded or limited.
• Since Old Habits Explorer moves, copies and deletes files at your command, we recommend keeping a backup, such as Time Machine.

Intellectual property and trademark

The code, interface, icons, texts and images of Old Habits belong to its owner. Old Habits, the name and the icon, identify the product and may not be used to identify another product or suggest an affiliation with it without permission.

Windows, Paint and File Explorer are trademarks of Microsoft; Apple, Mac and macOS are trademarks of Apple. Old Habits is not affiliated with either and uses these names only to say which tool each feature corresponds to.

Third-party components

• Sparkle 2 (automatic updates), © Andy Matuschak, Elgato Systems, Kornel Lesiński, Mayur Pawashe and others, under the MIT license; it includes parts under BSD and zlib licenses. Full license text.
• Other than that, the app uses only the Apple frameworks that ship with macOS.
• This website uses the Bricolage Grotesque, Figtree and JetBrains Mono typefaces, under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 (text for each: Bricolage Grotesque, Figtree, JetBrains Mono).

Encryption and export

Old Habits uses only macOS’s standard encryption — for HTTPS connections, verifying the signatures of updates and of the license code, and internal communication between the parts of the app.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by Brazilian law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live, which prevail where more favorable. If you are a consumer, you may bring a claim in the courts where you live. Questions about the license: suporte@oldhabits.app. If these terms change, the new version appears on this page with an updated effective date; a purchase already made keeps the terms in force on its date, where those are more favorable to you.
